Perfect stop while hiking the South Kaibab, this became our turn around spot for an under 3-hour down and out. Available bathrooms and killer views made for an excellent early lunch location as well. Got to see the mules as they watered before they headed back up the trail. Breathing was a core in the way back up for this flatlander, but we were trying keep a schedule to catch our train and I was probably pushing too hard. Loved the experience and already want to go back.

Beautiful resting point approximately 2 miles of a hike under the rim on the S Kaibab trail. Offers a wide space to soak in the views and get a different perspective of Mather point. We utilized the bathroom before heading back up to the rim. We started hiking at about 730am. and had very little competition with the path, but we ran into a lot of foot traffic on our way back up.

It's worth every step. It wasn't easy. Hiked down, had lunch and hiked out. Recommend going early to beat the sun and bring plenty of water if traveling with kids.

What an awesome viewpoint for a reletively short round trip (2.8 miles) from the South Rim! You get great views of O'Neill butte, a panoramic view of the canyon, and some mule trains! This place does get crowded, but there is ample space to spread out and rest. Don't forget the water! There is no water on the South Kaibab trail, but there are restrooms at Cedar Ridge.

Cedar Ridge was a great place to rest on our Grand Canyon hike. There were restrooms here and great views. It is about 5% of the way down to the Ranch at the bottom of the canyon. Rest under the shade of the tree before you start your way back to the top. Remember, there are no rescues in the Grand Canyon. However far you go down you must then go back up. If you feel tired at the Cedar Ridge then it is time to return. The climb up is much harder than the descent.

Second major checkpoint you’ll come across on your descent down this trail. Decently spaced area to walk around and absorb the view. Met lots of friendly faces here. The climb down can be a little difficult cause of the slippery rocks, but the ascent back to the top will make you want to never hike again.

The walk down is very pretty and so are the views from this point. It is well worth the time. It is 366 meters down from the top pf the canyon and about a 45 minute walk down. Up takes a bit longer. Be careful tho, it might be slippery on some steps because of the dust and the sand on the rocks. If you have the time, do walk down to Cedar Ridge after Ooh Aah Point.
