We were in desperate need of an afternoon pick-me-up and we found Mad Dogs. I was obsessed from the moment I walked in! The design of their coffee shop is so welcoming. The staff were so friendly. We ordered a couple of their holiday drinks and they were just what we needed. We went downstairs to check out the bikes and they are so cool. We made sure to stop here a second time before our weekend in Carmel was over. Would love to come back!

17 mile bike tour with Leslie was probably the highlight of our trip. Much better than seeing it from a car. Very knowledgeable about the history of the area. She also brought monoculars for us to view the otters and other animals at the various stops we made. Highly recommend and go eat at La Bicyclette after for some amazing food and service.

Mad Dogs is the most amazing bike shop in the world! They have the coolest sidecars for the doggies, for sale and for rent! And now they have the most beautiful coffee bar in all of California, with the best coffee in Carmel by the Sea. They even sell gourmet bags of their own coffee beans now, packaged in cute bags with doggies riding on bikes. The coffee is exceptional!!! 10 out of 10. A definite must if coming to Carmel….

I love visiting dog friendly Carmel and renting bikes at Mad Dogs & Englishmen! Martin the owner is amazing and so fun to work with. My first time renting was for a friend's birthday and I had called to book a large group with dogs. I think I was the first group with a large amount of side cars needed and sounded crazy but Martin was able to accommodate us. We had no idea where to go so we ended up having an employee ride with us and take us around making sure we were ok. (Thank you!) The next rentals we booked a tour guide and we went down 17 mile drive and had the best day. Yesterday I had a crazy idea for a dog event and Martin made sure we had everything we needed. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful and all of my friends and I cannot thank them enough every time we visit. Make sure to book well in advance so you aren't disappointed as a walk in - since we started coming they are now very busy and always booked up! With large groups I book at least a month in advance 🙂 I have been to the Montecito location as well & just have the Monterey location left to visit!

Tips:
- book in advance, call if you have questions ( for example I am short and have rode on different bikes and prefer the Super 73 with side car)
- make sure you are comfortable riding a bike as you will be riding busy roads & with side cars it takes a minute to get used having a load on the side
- your dog must have a harness, I suggest one with front and back clips so they have a safer/more comfortable ride (if you forget you can rent one)
- you can fit more than 1 dog in a side car but make sure they do not exceed weight restrictions and are comfortable together!

Jeniffer the owner is amazing and helped me pick out a bag of beans and gave me great information about what I was buying. The coffee shop has great ambiance and of course coffee is AMAZING. Must try when you're at Carmel

What an amazing experience. Less than 2 hours away from the Bay, this is a perfect day trip activity for you and your pup! They recommend the scenic road and 17mile drive. Both options are beautiful as they take you right along the coast. The motorists are very friendly and accommodating to bikers.

Owner Jennifer and her staff are all very welcoming and do their best to ensure everyone has a good time. While waiting, I noticed they are quick to problem solve and offer solutions to any issues that arose relating to charging, reservations, and sidecars. They really love what they do and want to share it with everyone.

Recommend booking reservations online and arriving early. The check in process is long because they need to explain how each bike operates as they're all slightly different from each other and can take around half an hour of your reservation time if they get backed up. There is only 1 iPad to complete the waiver, but there is a QR code to scan instead.
