Incredible hiking + apparently biking experience. As my friend and I scaled the whole mountain, we came across many cyclists that seemed to be having the time of their lives. Although they of course were using a battery assist to propel them up the steep trail. It was also apparent that many types of folks come to this trail seeking solace and peace in the trees and creeks as I had.

It was definitely a long trek. But well worth it to scale in one days walk. Although, due to some rain washout, we weren’t able to drive all the way to the trailhead. Which made it more difficult. If you have anything other than a four wheel drive pickup truck, jeep, or off roading vehicle it is very difficult to make it all the way through to it.

And of course there were many potholes on the way through the dirt road. But overall very fun and manageable in my economy car. BE VERY CAREFUL in making turns and staying on track, because as we were descending, we missed the turn back down the mountain where we came and got a little lost on a long stretch of road. But thankfully Google maps was able to help us find our way back. Highly recommend having a print out of the map or a digital download in case something similar happens to you. But of course I hope not. Also highly recommend going early in the morning between 7 and 8 AM. If you wanna make it to the top or even halfway up the trail it’ll take at least four hours.

Currently the trail is partially closed. The road to drive in also partially block. You will park little further outside and walk in. The hike is simple, lot of shade, even we hike on hot day with no cloud, the shade is plenty enough that is such a breeze and fun hike, road is flat and wide as car can easy drive through. Along the way there is little stream that is real nice that worth to come for until the fall is open again.

Great hike- but closed June 10 - Sep 30th 2024 for maintenance.

Hike from nearest parking to trail head is 4.5 miles total with a good amount of shade, so still a nice walk with creek crossing.

If you are bringing your dog, make sure they have had their flea/tick meds because there are ticks that will hitch hike. We brought some home with us last week. Pulled two off of one dog, found two more dead in the house a few days later. Eeeew.

3.4 mile round trip easy hike to Holly Jim waterfall with 640 ft elevation gain.

The waterfall was looking good since we are having a very wet season in California this year.

Love this trial. Still closed for vehicles at the end to go further into the canyon. Burnt some years ago so waiting for the vegetation to gain more strength

It was an easy trail. It has areas to go over streams approx 8. Some people use hiking poles. We did our hike without the poles. It is a small waterfall but beautiful. The hardest part is the drive to get there, especially if you have a small car. We made it in our prius !!

I saw this trail on YouTube and was interested in doing a little off-roading with my truck and do some hiking. I drove about a mile in and discovered the trail head / vehicle trail into Holy Him Trail was closed /locked by a vehicle barricade. I parked my truck and walked around the barricade and saw a sign posted by The Bureau of land management and forestry, stating the roads are closed indefinitely unless you’re federal, state or fire services..etc. Bottom line you can still hike but no more off-roading up here. 05/29/22
