Parked off Nancy Town Lake Rd (dirt road) by Sourwood Trail, which I skipped due to lack of time...hope to return in the fall and update this review. After crossing the bridge, an old road leads into Nancytown Day Use Area with plenty of picnic tables amid a well-vegetated area. On the far left by the restroom house is the 6.2mi Lady Slipper Trail. Great views of the lake, a waterfall dam, small footbridges, and seasonal flowers were the main highlights. Saw a few folks fishing and two mountain bikers.

There is no bridge across the levee at the south end so I recommend wearing old shoes as your feet will get wet. I followed signs along the gravel road into the campgrounds where I resumed the trail to complete the loop. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and better than expected. If you like being around nature for about 3hrs then give this place a try.

Check out nearby Chenocetah Tower, the only one in Georgia made of solid granite. The high up view of Lake Russell is spectacular!

A great trail that’s not used by many, but with great views of the lake and forest cover, with some moderate elevation climb and water crossings. The trail is not always well marked (like crossing the lake levee), but makes for a great 2-3 hour walk.
