Outstanding B&B. The hosts are so welcoming and professional. Even though this is a shared guesthouse, there is a lot of room for privacy. The views from the lanai are absolutely breathtaking and relaxing. Rooms are very comfortable. Breakfast is 10/10. They serve a snack in the afternoon as well (homemade brownies, upside down pineapple cake, etc), which is a nice touch. The beach amenities (chairs, umbrellas, etc) were much appreciated. If you are lucky enough to stay here, book as many nights as possible because you will NOT want to leave.

We love this place! The owners and staff are superb too! Old plantation style feel with all the modern amenities. Too many personal touches to list. My wife found this gem and I can't encourage you enough to stay here. We met several other travelers who were repeat customers who come back every year. You will fall in love with this place and the people. Oh, and the breakfasts were fabulous too. Artfully done. And don't forget to buy a bag of coffee from their plantation for when you get home!

This place is just truly special. Every single decision and detail from the warm lighting, delicious homemade snacks, relaxing music, etc is so clearly intentional to help the guests have as amazing an experience as possible. From the first moment we walked in, I felt completely relaxed and at home. Hannah, Michael, and Greg were so warm, kind, and available but also let the guests have plenty of space and privacy - truly a perfect balance. There are also so many amenities available (yoga mats, foam rollers, beach chairs, etc that guests can use). I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable, and magical stay on the Big Island.

This is hands down top 3 favorite places we’ve ever stayed in!
My husband and I worked in the hotel industry for over 15 years (Stayed in Ritz Carlton's, St Regis, etc) but those don't even compare to Ka'Awa Loa.
We specifically LOVE how local we felt by staying there.
We've never stayed at a B&B before and boy did this one set the mark.
The location is PERFECT. We loved the drive up there and once we arrived, the view from the lanai was just breathtaking.
The breakfast each morning was beyond expectations. Always a hot item + the freshest fruit, smoothie, coffee, bread, etc.
The afternoon treats were also AMAZING. We specifically LOVED the mango upside down cake!
It's so quiet there which makes it perfect for hearing the sounds of nature. That alone added to the peacefulness of it all.
We specifically stayed at the cottage. We LOVED it. We enjoyed the privacy of it but also being super close to the main house.
We're from Texas so we were concerned about not having AC at first. During the day it is a bit toasty but in the evening it was great because the temperature dropped to 70/71.
The staff makes you feel like family and are so kind with reccomendations in the area.
We also loved the touch of having beach amenities available!
I could honestly go on about everything but needless to say this B&B made our trip unforgettable. SO grateful for the hospitality and all the beautiful memories.

Imagine spending the night at someone’s place who is on an extreme side of OCD spectrum, but your staying is not for free—you’re paying about $300 for one night, and someone is constantly monitoring your every move. Almost nothing is set up for your comfort, from the moment you arrive the long lists of “do and doNots” starts, it starts even before, while you’re trying to find the nonsense address. Which I will include a picture of it on this review.
Besides the long lists of do and do nots,
there are a lot of signs of “do and do nots” everywhere in the room restrooms kitchen and around the exit and entrance of the building. It almost feels like the business owner expect the customers to be in the service of the owner’s comfort.
Let me add this that the whole process of finding the place, including the absurdly misleading address and having to go back and forth eight times, was frustrating. I’m going leave just two photos of the notes that were given to us as we arrived. Everything had one clear message: You are NOT welcome.

This place is Shangri-La! It’s setting is on a hill with a view of the ocean and beautiful sunsets. The breakfasts were fantastic with local fruits from the plantation, homemade baked goods, eggs, yogurt and french toast served on the lanai porch overlooking the ocean. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the beds comfortable. The hostesses were very accommodating and knowledgeable about activities to do in the area. The pricing was excellent. I give their accommodations my highest recommendation.
