Before anything- if you are making this a destination be careful it may take you to Ed Staback Memorial Park which is a local park on the back side of the Archibald Pothole State Park Property and for the so.e if the parking lot and hold it is a bit of an irritant to try to figure out why you are at a soccer field.

This is an interesting historic curiosity and I’m glad that DCNR is protecting it….nice stop to stretch your legs and read about the history of locating the hole in terms of recent history and the theories of geologic formation. Not one of the larger parks with days of exploring.

In addition, if the map gets you to the correct parking lot the nondescript entrance comes up very quickly so pay attention to your tenths of miles. No restrooms.

Neat little area to stop in. Has fenced walkway that would be wheelchair accessible. Beautiful natural flowers and trees with some paths to walk into the woods a bit. But of course Pennsylvania has a state park for a pot hole! The history on this is cool, glacier formed. Stop by!

Pretty underwhelmed by this place. It gets cool points for history and discovery. Literally less then 20 feet from the parking area. Website states there are hiking trails, which there are, but none of them are marked or have much distance. We used the Gaia app to follow the trails, but they are not maintained and there’s not much to see but plenty to hear as it borders the roadway - definitely not the place to nature bathe. Parking area was completely covered in trash…I picked up as much as I could but stopped short of the dirty diapers thrown on the ground (come on people 🤬) as I do have my limits. Stop if you need to burn 5 minutes otherwise I’d say you aren’t missing much!

Pretty cool little roadside attraction, this is worth stopping by if you’re driving down Route 6 but is not a must-see by any means. It’s really just a huge hole in the ground, an informational sign, and a few short trails through the surrounding hills. People believe the pothole was the result of melting water from a glacier flowing down through the crevices in the rock, and over many years formed the massive hole that you can marvel at if you visit. As I said, pretty cool to see (pictures really don’t do it justice), but I wouldn’t waste too much time on the trails, as there are much better places for a hike in the area. Go to Navy Aug Park in Scranton instead!

I understand the geological significance but it is not much to look at. There were people in cars/trucks in the parking lot, just sitting, not interacting. Were they there to protect the pothole from loiterers or? If so that’s great, and they should let themselves be known. I felt like I was being watched.

Nice little state park. The view of the pothole is pretty cool! The trails were good. Wish there were trash cans there though. People decide to through trash anywhere there. Otherwise great park.
