My husband and I hiked this trail on Sunday, October 13th. We were actually planning on driving over Cottonwood Pass and then we stumbled on this trail and decided to go hiking instead, what a great choice we made! There were only five other cars when we got to the trailhead, we started out slow and easy, its a steep trail with several switchbacks. The aspens were all in various stages of showing their colors, and the view of Rainbow Lake from the top was beautiful! We didn't complete the full hike, not enough time in the day, but we'll definitely be back!

Huge, paved parking lot, with an outhouse. Well marked trail, but it snakes up through a hillside with only mountain mahogany for cover. Beautiful, but if it's 25 degrees and windy, the wind will be pretty harsh on your way up.

Discovered this trailhead in November. The beginning of the trail crosses a tiny stream a few times via small bridges. Later on it starts to climb the hill, giving one amazing scenes from the higher viewpoint. Parking was free. It has a small restroom.

The views are awesome. There was a lot of snow coverage when I was there and an avalanche not far from the trailhead. It's awesome to see the power of what an avalanche can do. If you get the chance go up and look at the Avalanche chute

First off, the roads leading to this trail are all paved, so YAY for that! I tried to visit some other trails in a small rental car and they were muddy dirt roads you would need a 4x4 to get through but this one is very small car friendly and a nice parking lot too. I visited it in mid-March and they had snow plowed the parking lot but the trails themselves still had a lot of snow in places. Only one person had gone before us, and he was better prepared, we could see footprints of the chain spikes on his boots and poles with those snow cup things. We had poles and hiking boots but no chains so it was a bit slippery in places. There is a LOT of elevation gain, and being from a lower altitude area we certainly felt it slow us down, but taking frequent breaks we made good distance, yet had to turn around once the snow got too deep and we realized if we started to slide down the side of the mountain in this one place it would end badly! That won't be a problem if there isn't snow or rain though. The trail and views were very beautiful, I would like to see it again in the summer, or go better prepared for snow next time if there is any.

Several great trails leave from this uncrowded and convenient to Buena Vista parking lot.

This TH is moderate. At this writing there was a debris field from a March 2019 avalanche. Trails are well maintained however . The beaver pond has grown substantially over the last 10 years. Beautiful Aspen groves. Enjoy!
