Basalt Bike & Ski

Having used this bike shop for many years for mountain bike repairs, my recent experience was very upsetting. I went in for new slime and asked to have my brake pads and shifting checked … I was immediately told I needed new rotors, right brake bleed, new cables and housing, new derailer, new chain, and sprocket!!!! Since my bike had been working fine with some minor skipping issues during shifting and knowing I couldn’t afford all of that at once, I agreed to a new chain, adjust the derailer, and bleed my right brake. The Chain cost $55. The labor was $130 !!!!!….Which Included a separate charge for each thing …adjusting the derailer $35, bleeding one brake $45, adjusting one brake $15, installing the chain $15, and refreshing the slime $20. Geez! I took the bike out for a trail ride the next morning, and it was now jumping and skipping all over the place so I had to go home. I took it back… they said they worked on it some more but because I refused to replace all those parts, they said it was working the best that it could be. The mechanic and I exchanged words and I was told to find another repair shop! Apparently, there are new owners, Since Joel wasn’t mentioned when I asked for names. Too bad for Carbondale.

Great experience at Basalt Bike & Ski Carbondale location last weekend! I was able to get a 24-hour demo, and swap out a couple different bikes I wanted to try during that period for the price of one. Isa and Brandon were great to work with and very helpful for each pickup/dropoff. Doug, the owner, even discounted the demo a little since I didn't have a bike for the full 24-hours. We're heading back up there in a few weeks and will definitely be back! Thanks Basalt Bike & Ski Carbondale!

They sold me a Class 3 ebike that should be assisted up to 28 mph. Because of the gearing, it can't go faster than 20 mph at 200 cadence. They admit it's a known problem but tell me that it's Specialized's problem and not theirs. Specialized tells me that Basalt Bike and Ski should've known and needs to train their sales people better. No one has offered options or solutions, just finger pointing. BBS is either dishonest or incompetent. Granted, they were able to tell me to my face that I got screwed but then told me to pound sand.

Excellent shop. Joel took a dying shop and turned it into one of the Best bike shops in the area. Great group of people working there, and Lyndon is the MAN! He’s been helping me with my bikes for nearly a decade now! Big thanks to the whole team!

The new owners are great, they kept the old bike mechanics who always helped me out, they're cool no nonsense guys. The old owner was frankly rude and I must say some of his salesmen were pretty rude too. I'm happy the bike shop is under new ownership and I'll always take my bikes to get worked on there, they've always done a great job.

Always have great experiences here. Being a novice mountain biker I am not up to snuff with my "bike lingo" and I don't currently have a multi thousand dollar bike. Nonetheless everyone here treats me with respect and courtesy. They make me feel comfortable asking questions and not always knowing the specifics of what might need some attention on my bike. The prices are hard to beat, and they have one of the best annual sales around Labor Day.

This is an excellent store and the owner is committed to the customer after the sale. I recently bought a bicycle and had a problem with one of the parts. I contacted the customer services and with no time the owner answered my questions and also put me direct in contacted with his team to take care helping me with the guarantee. Everything was perfect, even when I had questions on the fallowing weekend. His team where above and beyond to helped me. Very professional. They above the average of others stores.
