Great long trail for hiking, jogging, running or biking.
There are some crossings for cars but with little traffic. Keep in mind that a section passes next to a shooting range, it is completely safe but you might hear loud gunshots.
Trail is easy and flat.
People walk their dogs here too. Make sure you have a leash and a way to clean after them.
Free parking in the Trailhead. No restroom.
Bring big spray in the summer!

Rode out and back, from Freeport Trailhead to Butler Trailhead and back. Great for exercise. Easy trail to ride, although you must cross two-lane roads at least 6 times, so be careful with those. There are occasionally some rough spots on the trail, so watch for those and you can steer clear of them. No difficult hills to climb, in case that's important to you.
A young fawn, still had it's spots, crossed the trail close to me. The pig farm doesn't smell great on a hot summer day, but it doesn't last long...The first three pics are at the 10 mile point; the next two at the Butler Trail Head; and the last three are along the way.

I started from the Butler end. Mostly a gentle climb for 3-4 miles (which meant an easy ride back!)and slight downhill up to the 8.2 mile mark (where I turned back). The trail was much narrower in many places than I expected (I had to move to grass to let oncoming bikes pass), but that wasn't the major portion. Most of trail was safely passable but several places had loose sand and/or wash outs/ruts. Nice mix of shade and sun. Several street crossings. All were well-marked and safe with just a bit of effort on your part. You ride past farms, houses and some small industry sites but nothing too distracting. Much better than riding on a street!

But, I probably won't come back. I'm exploring trails to trails sites and this is the last pleasant so far, not bad, but...

It’s truly hard to put into words just how special this gem along the Butler-Freeport Trail is. The staff are not only friendly but exceptionally professional, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The setting is nothing short of enchanting — peaceful, inviting, and the perfect place to relax and recharge. I honestly wish every trail had a place like this; it adds so much character and comfort to the experience. As much as I enjoy the trail itself, I can’t imagine riding it nearly as often without this wonderful café. While I haven’t yet tried the food (though the menu looks delicious), I can absolutely vouch for the quality of their espresso-based drinks — they’re top-notch!

Great gravel bike ride! It's a point-to-point (Butler - Freeport) but I do an out-and-back. I start at the Butler trailhead and ride to the Cabot. There's an old caboose beside the trail there and a nice covered shelter with picnic tables. That is also the 10 mile point so I return to Butler for a 20 mile total ride.

Fantastic local gravel trail! I’ve done the entire 20 miles and it’s always a fun ride. I always see local wildlife and everyone always say Hi as I pass. I mean how can you be in a bad mood surrounded by the natural beauty of western pa?! Be sure to stop at the derailleur cafe.

BEAUTIFUL trail... but people can't READ. DOGS MUST BE ON LEASH!!! Ignorant ENTITLED dog owners think they're EXEMPT. Proof? JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURES ON GOOGLE. Glad you enjoyed the trail, LEASH YOUR MUTTS.

Nice trail pretty flat, everyone I passed spoke to me! Enjoyed finding blackberries along the way and other interesting things like this plant or weed not to sure. Good for walking, running, bike rides, and exploring!!
