The Wauponsee Trail is great for long distance bike touring, but their camping policy is incredibly unfriendly to travelers. They require at least two days in advance registration at their campgrounds, something that is typically impossible for someone on a bike tour to determine, and if you have no idea about their registration policy and happen to find one of their campgrounds, there's nothing on any of the signage that talks about a required permit or advanced registration. I got kicked out of a literally empty campground because I arrived and did not see any signage in the campground about registration or fees, and didn't think there were any as a result. Turns out their registration is a whopping $40/night for out of state visitors. If you're traveling through I suggest just finding a quiet spot in the woods instead of using any of the developed facilities in Will County.

So happy to have dog park in Crete! Early problems of grass cutting, empty poop bags, and bird droppings were worked out after several calls and emails! Be forewarned... ZERO tolerance for breaking any rule! I just got a $50 ticket for allowing my dog off leash to run to gate while I was gathering his water and toys! Preserve Police not owners friends!

The Forest Preserve District of Will County offers amazing opportunities to get outdoors and experience nature, whether you like to hike, fish, bike, walk, or simply sit in a still and quiet place. They just redesigned their website to make it easier to use and offer an interactive map that allows you to explore the forest preserves and get directions. Check them out, you won't regret it.

You can purchase dog park passes, camping permits, and pavilion reservations. Also, lots of free information including maps and brochures for all the Forest Preserve sites.

Their site does not allow to book online a picnic shelter and when you call them, they refuse to reserve by phone based on ridiculous arguments. First she told me that the shelter is available, then that I had to reserve it with two days in advense, although I tried online and by phone but nobody was answering.
Also the operator does not answer the phone. After being interrupted, I called several times and she just did not answer.

Cannot believe the forest preserve would not allow the ComEd repair men on trail to connect electricity after being out 3 days and my friend who was just home from surgery has had to suffer.for e and now 4 days. Never will I vote yes another referendum. Too political. Shame on you. Karen Repko
