Nice trails, however, they are quite weird due to a daily direction for routes. We found it somewhat confusing. We followed the directional route and toward the end, there was a strange sign that appeared to point us in one direction vs. another, but the direction that was "right" took us to part of the trail that we had already been on. We then backtracked and went the "wrong" direction only to come accross people going the opposite direction. It was weird and I feel is very unnecessary even if the trails are shared with bikers.

SIGNS!!!!!? What is going on with the trail signs? I've been here with groups of people for yearly events and the discussion always at some point returns to the horrible trail signs.

It's difficult to determine the correct direction for the current day (yep the direction of the trail is determined by the day), and it seems like one trail in particular is just a loop with no way out, unless you go against the posted one way traffic.

I'm sure signage is clear in the mind of the trail planner, but the planner should follow some first time visitors and see how well they do. 😆

I'm sorry, but this has been a years long issue that even the people that visit very very regularly, or plan trail events there acknowledge, and because of that I'm deducting stars.

Been coming here since I was little. This place offers a little bit of everything. There's nothing like waking up next to the Mississippi River with a cup of coffee.

Thanks for the hospitality and the memories!!

Specifically reviewing the mountain bike trails at Illiniwek, I would say these are some of the best trails in the Quad Cities. Both the North and South system loops offer unique rides, but neither of them are too difficult. The hardest riding at Illiniwek is the incline to the top of the hill, but it's not as bad as I expected AND you can bypass the hill on the south side by driving up Hubbard Road and parking up there (and just staying on the upper south loop if you want to avoid the hill).

From the main entrance, there are connecting trails at the bottom of the hill for both systems, and there is plenty of signage on the trails themselves. The South loop is pretty straight-forward, though it does cross over the road at the parking lot off of Hubbard Road. The North loop has two connecting parts and a couple of four-way stops and one-ways, so you really have to watch the signs and look at the map. There is a very cool scenic overlook at the top of the North system, but if you go to it, then you have to go back around a bit to get back down the hill (or you can skip the scenic overlook and just go down the AWESOME downhill ride).

Overall, these are great trails and a lot of fun mountain biking!

The Illiniwek Campground Park is a treasure! This county owned property lies directly on the Mississippi River. Both the view and setting here are absolutely stunning.

They offer 25 primitive tent camping spaces and 60 spaces for motorized and non-motorized RVs-pop ups, travel trailers, fifth wheels, motor homes etc.-with water and electric hook-ups. A dump station is available also.

The camping season generally runs April through October. They do not take online or telephone reservations. Either show up with your RV to see if they have space available or drive over to check. If you don’t have your RV with you, you can pay for your site and they’ll put a cone on it until you return that day with your rig.

The park office is open daily. They sell ice and firewood. A camp host is also available during peak season.

This 174 acre forest preserve also has hiking and biking trails, a picnic shelter available by reservation, a playground, and a boat ramp to launch your boat into the Mississippi River. You can also fish here.

There’s bathrooms and showers in the park too.

This is a clean and beautifully scenic park/preserve. I enjoyed watching black squirrels perched on the boulders in a section of the preserve by the river.

The park is easy to get to off of nearby I-80 and there are plenty of stores, restaurants, and bars in the area. It is super convenient to get to just about anything the Quad Cities offer from here including casinos!

Whether you come alone, with your special someone, or with your family or group, having an enjoyable time at this park is a sure thing!
