On 8/1/23 I took my sons fly fishing and we had an exceptional guide Eric from Lost River. My sons 14 and 20 had never Gone flyfishing and I had no experience either, but Eric made it a memorable day as he got each of us 5-7 trout and patiently taught us the ins and outs so we could enjoy the experience. I will always remember seeing my boys’ excitement and Eric’s as they hooked yet another fish…you can’t buy those type of memories. -Trevor

Friendly and helpful staff and guides. This store feels like a place where locals go but they are also very welcoming to visitors. Our favorite part: they have guided trips for kids under 14. Duke has been a great guide for our son for 3+ summers now. Bonus: good hat selection.

My girlfriend and I booked a trip with Amy at lost river and it was fantastic! Amy really went out of her way to put us on the fish! She was extremely knowledgeable and excited to show us a great time. Her knowledge was extensive, but beyond that and more importantly she really took the time to work with us and showed extreme patience and was an excellent instructor. I caught lots of fish and Lauren caught her first ever on the fly. 4 species total including a beast 18” wild rainbow trout!

Can’t say enough good things about our winter trip with Scott.

Incredibly knowledgeable guide, and just an awesome person. Despite the cold temps we were catching trout all day on the Big Wood. Took a short break to enjoy a much needed homemade warm lunch that really hit the spot.

Everyone at the shop was super helpful, rental gear was great. Highly recommend to anyone looking to catch some fish!!

My wife and I ended up spending the weekend in Ketchum for a much needed break from our busy lives. We brought the fly fishing gear thinking we might head out and explore the local rivers, as this was our first trip up this way.

We randomly met a guide from Lost River and thought it could be a good idea to have a local show us around. I’ve done deep see trips, but never a fly fishing guides trip. We called and got set up for a half day trip 2 days later.

Important to note, while we have been fly fishing for a few years, we are far from good at it and we know it. So we got set up with Eric, who took us on the best day on the water I’ve ever had.

The location was amazing, and the fishing was great. It was so nice to have an expert teach us how to be better anglers. Patient and encouraging, we got off the water feeling like we finally had an idea of what we were doing out there. Eric was committed to getting on some fish, and took the time to tell us why we were doing what we were doing, as well as making corrections when we did something wrong. We ended up in some great spots and caught some amazing trout. With Eric’s help, I feel like I worked for those fish, not just getting lucky.

The shop is great too, we ended up buying some gear that the guide was using, as it was a step up from what we had blindly purchased before. I honestly can’t wait to come back and go on another trip, maybe even come back for a bird trip this winter!

Brand new or new to the area, I can’t recommend this team enough. It will be worth your time and you’ll have a great time.

While passing through Ketchum this past Sunday (7-9-2023) I stopped in Lost River Outfitters to see if they sold fishing licenses. Thankfully they did, and their staff was very professional and supportive, especially Logan. Since moving to Idaho, I have found that the people here are genuinely nice, friendly, and courteous. Logan has all of those qualities and more; I plan to visit Lost River Outfitters again in the near future to spend a bit more time (and money) and to gain insight on fishing the waters in and around the area. The store's selection was amazing as was the decor. All in all, it was a good experience. Great service in an age when that seems to have diminished considerably over the past few years.

I ran into the owner of this fly shop on a river today and it looked like he was guiding clients, but I am not sure about that. What a poor interaction.
As with any human interaction, there are 2 sides of the story. My side is this, we were making our way up the river and had been on the river for about 2 hours and about 1 mile into the day as we parked at the public access. As we came around the bend we could see their group upacking from their car in the "private" parking section of the river. We were calling our dog who was running along the shoreline and "assumed" (could be wrong) he knew we were there. We fished a hole and then continued to make our way up the river, which we quickly ran into him as he was fishing the next hole up the river. I figured he jumped in front of us and we were going to work our way up past him, which we did.
Around the next bend I ran into him again as he jumped in front of us again. He started yelling at me from about 20 yards away that I should not be fishing there. As I approached him to understand what he was yelling about, he noted that "where they are from" they dont jump in front of others and that I should ask first before passing. He demanded curtesy and did not provide any to the people he jumped in front of with his "special privledge" parking because "he knows the owner of this "PRIVATE PROPERTY". This "Owner of a Fly Shop in KETCHUM", in a grumpy and talk down to voice, calling me "buud" said we could walk back over the private property that he had special access to......I can think of a lot of words, but I will refrain. I was not on the river to start anything with anyone.....especially the "Owner of a fly shop in Ketchum", so we went back to our cars, had a beer and enjoyed the rest of the day. If you are looking for a great fly fishing shop where they treat people like humans and dont talk down to you, Picabo angler is fantastic shop with very knowledable guides/staff, they also guide the river we were on today. If you are in Pocatello see Brandon at Snake River Fly. I do not recommend the fellow or his business after our first interaction.......thanks "buud"
