Great hike with varied terrain and scenery. Pretty steep climbs in a couple places but well worth it! Scramble to the top of the rocks at the top for fantastic views - you can see black elk peak and Mt Coolidge lookout! There are several creek crossings and an area with deciduous trees and grasses. Watch out for poison ivy!

Nicely labeled trail, hill up is a little intense. On the way down was beautiful and we crossed multiple bridges.took
about 3 hours but took a few breaks and enjoyed the views. The dirt on the trail was very fine and got my shoes pretty dirty.

Enjoyed this hike in Custer SP. Park has changed out their directional arrows; steering you to go one way (must be a rhyme to their reason!) Nice lookout at top to see the range and mountains. Trail very well maintained.

This was an absolutely beautiful trail to hike on. We consider ourselves pretty physically active, but there were several steep spots. As other reviews say, if you go clockwise (to the left) at the spilt, it is strenuous for the first 1.25 miles. After that, it is mostly downhill/flat, with a little incline towards the end. If you go counter-clockwise (to the right) it may be more strenuous throughout the entire hike.
This trail took us about 2 hours to hike. We enjoyed following the stream, which the trail crosses at least 12 times. Would be muddy if it has rained recently.

I guess a while ago this trail used to be covered. However due to fire about 3 years ago it's pretty open now. So on a hot sunny day you want to take plenty of water.
We did it clockwise so we got most of the elevation done within the first 1.2 miles. It was mostly downhill after that and we crossed a stream 12 times which was really fun.
It's a fun hike but if you're doing it on a hot day, plan for plenty of water, more than anything you need.

Lovers Leap is a fairly easy trail for experienced hikers like me. Like others i suggest going clockwise at the fork. From there you go straight up quite steep, but it does level out at the top. Once you hit the badger Clark sign you begin the down hill part which has loose rocks all over so watch your footing. The bottom is easy and follows the creek. It goes back upwards a little before you circle back to where you began. This is not a difficult hike for those in good health. I conquered it in about an hour and a half. There is plenty of spots to sit on rocks or logs to catch your breath. I worked up a good sweat and aches in the knees. I find that black elk and crow peak are a lot more difficult. but I loved just being drenched in the smell of warm pine from the trees. Truly a nice time and perfect weather for it to feel alive. I would suggest this hike for the average hikers. Young kids might not like this one.
But now, time for some lunch and cold soda.

I experienced this trail in late winter so it was not very well traveled. I took it counter-clockwise and had the pleasure of discovering a group of one to two dozen big horned sheep resting in the woods not too far off the trail. From there it navigated back and forth over a frozen over stream. Someone's polite dog, Mr. G., accompanied me about a third of the way around the trail, even up most of the elevation. The views from the top were OK but nothing spectacular. If it hadn't been for the big horned sheep and the companionship of Mr. G this trail may have been 3.

Beautiful near October 1st with peak color of the Aspen and Birch trees. The weather had been dry so no problem with the creek crossings at all. Incredible view to the north at Lovers Leap itself. Took about 2 hours for us to complete it.
