Nice area very peaceful, however I'm super confused by the NFW customer service. They said the campsite is very popular and always reserved but I have not seen anybody there while hiking. So I asked them if people reserve it and don't use the reservation and they said no. I have difficulty believing they really know what's going on given that every outdoor area from the state to national parks is severely underfunded right now. Also all of the trails on the maps are overgrown to the point of nonexistent except for the riverside trail upstream to the boat launch, and the trash cans are overflowing.

Waste of time… I couldn’t find any trails… tried walking down a wide path with a lot of brush but, it was full sun & scratchy…

This area could be so much nicer, as it is close by, yet very remote; however, the trails have not been maintained in years. The gravel road that goes down to the camp site near the river has a closed gate. It is accessible on foot, but following heavy rains this past week, some portions were underwater.
