Solo female tent camper for 3 nights in late August. The food shelter was very helpful since it was cold & rainy the entire time I was there. Potable water spigots are located throughout. There are 2 bathrooms are easily accessible by foot either by the dirt road that goes around the campground, or certain places you can just cut through the trees depending on what site you have. If tent camping, make sure you have a proper tent to withstand rain, wind, frozen mix etc. It also gets VERY dark at night, so don’t forget your headlamp.

This campground feels a lot more private since it’s actually in the park. One of the mornings I walked the 2 miles to get to the Savage Alpine Trailhead. Camp host rides around on her bike in the evening. She wasn’t the most personable, but whatever…I still enjoyed my time there. First night I heard a hoofed animal run right past my tent. Ranger said it was probably a moose or caribou, but bears and wolves are in the area too. I did see a gorgeous caribou hours earlier about 10 minutes from the campground as I was driving in on my first night.

Two nights camping in mid-July. Breezy so no mosquito problems. Sites are quiet. Private, bear-proof food lockers and under-cover cooking shelter, vault toilets and water spigots available. Short walk to trailhead for Savage Alpine trail hike and short walk to the river where you can see at Mt Denali on a clear day. If you arrive after the visitor center has closed, check-in is at the Riley Creek Campground mercantile, where you can also buy ice cream, beer, snacks, t-shirts, etc.

Clean and quiet campground. Not too crowded. Some empty spaces even in mid August. Some pull thru a for larger rigs. Several trails begin in the camp area. Ranger talks were excellent.

Great secluded campsite. No hookups but restrooms are available. Wonderful easy trail down to the Savage River with benches along the bank. The B spots are a little tight, we couldn't open our slide all the way. Mosquitos are around but not terrible. Water spigots are plentiful. Clean and quiet. Definitely would recommend and would love to stay again.

Nice campsite that has spacious areas for each RV. However, was difficult to navigate around to find a free spot, and would have benefited from having a map so we could see where to go - especially if you went to use the showers/toilets and forgot where you had parked. The ground was pretty uneven in most spots so made it difficult to put sliders out. Each area was nice and secluded which made you feel private and as if you had your own area. Would definitely recommend as a group to make it feel like you have your own camping area as you couldn't hear other groups despite being so close.

We stayed at Savage for 3 nights. The location is great, the female camp host, not so much. We booked a B site & upon arrival, none were available. The male camp host agreed that we could park in an A site. Early in the morning there was a banging on our door and the female camp host yelling at us to move. She could have handled this so much better.

Fortunately, there was a B site open close to the others camping with us. We then had issues with the RV & turned the generator on to address it. Next thing we know, the female camp host is at our door with so much attitude stating, "looks like I need to remind you of the generator rules." Her tone was confrontational and rude. She was so unpleasant & should rethink how she approaches people.

Otherwise was an awesome stay.

One of the best campgrounds I stayed at during my 12 day trip in Alaska. It’s quiet, very “wildernessy”. Felt like you were really in Denali. Bathroom was clean. Camp sites were large with gravel parking and a big enough to fit multiple tents. Had a nice fire pit with a grill rack. Had a great time here and wished we would have stayed longer. Was a bit pricey for camping but worth it. Even saw a moose!

Awesome campground! This is the last campground outside the restricted area of the park so if you're doing a bus ride camping here will make your trip about a half hour shorter although you may not get seats together. We got to watch an owl hangout for about an hour and saw several porcupine on the trails nearby. The pit toilets aren't bad and there are even flush toilets as well. Some sites here are much better/private than others so get there on time if you want a better spot!
