I have been away from skiing for 10 years and was in the market for a complete ski package. I was sure I would find the best deal online, but I wanted to talk to a live person and also try on boots before I purchased online.

I went to the Walnut Creek Sports Basement last Saturday and met one of the nicest, funniest, and most informative salesmen you could imagine. The half hour I spent with Tristan discussing my skiing level, budget, and expectations for potential equipment was indescribably helpful. Tristan listened carefully and showed me a few skis worth considering. All the while he took great pains to explain all the ski terminology, various options and the benefits of different features. The entire conversation felt more like talking with an old friend or a family member than a pushy salesman.

Since the store was closing for the day, I went home and did some research online. I returned to the Sports Basement on Sunday. I specifically wanted to try on ski boots prior to purchasing a pair blind online. I didn’t get his name, my bad, but I believe it was the manager of the department who assisted me. After sharing my ski level he measured my foot and brought out a pair of boots in a 30.5 MONDO that fit like a glove. After which I decided on a ski and binding. I also needed poles, goggles, and a helmet.

I worked up the cost for the package I was interested in at the Sports Basement and compared it to what I researched online the prior evening. To my surprise, the package, consisting of Rossignol Sender Soul 92 skis, Look XP11 bindings, Tecnica Blizzard Sport Mv 100 ski boots, Scott 540 Pro Black poles, and Smith Sport Optics Frontier Black Red Sol-X Mirror Lenses was lower than what I had researched online the previous evening. I purchased everything with the exception of a Giro Ratio MIPS helmet. The helmet was the only item I found online at a better price.

I would recommend the ski department at the Sports Basement in Walnut Creek to anyone in the market for ski equipment. I think you will find the people and the prices to be outstanding.

The guys at the Snow Sports rental counter were really helpful and patient. First full gear rental for the kids and the staff made it easy. In and out in under an hour with a full gear package for a 5 & 8 year old. ?

Every time I walk in, I’m greeted by knowledgeable and friendly staff who genuinely love what they do and go out of their way to help me find exactly what I need. The clothing options are fantastic, with high-quality activewear and casual pieces that fit any adventure.

The atmosphere is always positive, and it feels more like a community than just a store. I especially love the events they host and the member discounts that make it even easier to stay active. It's rare to find a store that combines excellent customer service, a wide selection, and an authentic passion for outdoor activities. I love the Walnut Creek Sports Basement. Their bike service department is top tier. The folks there are passionate about cycling, super knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly. Always happy to bring my bike there and they help keep me on the saddle.

Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Inventory for ski equipment and accessories is the widest selection I have seen in the East Bay. It's great to be able to physically see and touch the products (skis, poles, boots, clothing, goggles, etc) for fit.

Everytime I goto Walnut Creek Sports Basement, the folks are awesome, helpful, come up to me and ask if I need anything, and really take time to talk and help me find the right things. 100% of the time they're great and they know the products. Yesterday i couldnt decide what sleeping bag to buy so we took out 3 from the back and went over to the "grassy area" and I got to test them out for like 15 minutes lying on the ground inside the store. Totally normal! And it helped me make the right choice 🙂 Plus it was a good deal, so you need to join the rewards program, don't be a fool and skip that step to save $ over time.
