The Mountain Air is one of my favorite shops in SLO. It is close to downtown, and they have the best brands for practicing outdoor activities. They have an extensive selection of hiking gear and clothes; Josh, the owner, is very nice and friendly. I can't wait to go back again. They have a sister store next door called "The Switchback" and sell used clothes and new from the best brands at a reduced price. I went there several times during my SLO vacation and loved it.

I had a sort of emergency need for a new sleeping bag for an upcoming trip. Ordered a Western Mountaineering one from The Mountain Air with 3-day shipping. Due to the time sensitive nature, I called to verify that they got my order and that it would arrive within 3 days, since I’m on the east coast. They assured me that they got my order and that they’d take it to the post office that same day. I had a tracking number in my email by the end of day, and the sleeping bag was on my doorstep within 2 days. Absolute life saver and absolute great product. Will do business again. Thanks!

Nice locally owned outdoor clothes and camping supply stores in SLO. A large selection of Patagonia and other technical clothing. Good selection of local guidebooks and maps. Good selection of travel gear as well.

I appreciate this store for its customer service. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I usually shop for shoes, backpacks and Yeti products. If the size I need isn’t in stock they offer to order it for me. My son gets bouldering equipment there. The merchandise is high quality. Prices aren’t a “good deal” but they have a yearly sale where you can stock up on things. Also, there is s parking lot customers can use without paying, a rare thing in our downtown area. If you’re in need of any outdoorsy gear then consider stopping in.

My family has shopped at the Mountain Air since we moved to SLO 4 years ago. They feel like family more than a business. We’ve purchased ski & hiking equipment, rented ski gear, bought local hiking/Topo maps and took care of every outdoor need we’ve had.
