I would like to say that we are very happy with UniFirst. We had a few hurdles to get through while renewing our contract and Darrin made sure we were taken care of. Mostly I have to give 5 STARS to our driver Eli, every week he makes sure that we are ok, asks us if there is anything he can do for us or make our experience better. We have been through a few drivers and he is by far the best we have ever had!

For our location in Schererville, we've had some here and there experiences with UniFirst. That being said, there was a major change and turnaround when Eli became our driver. Since working with Eli, his weekly accuracy and efficiency with our orders has made our work experience UniFirst extremely pleasant and organized! We are extremely grateful to have Eli on our route and we thank him for all that he does.

Excellent Company, Subpar Location

During my time at Unifirst, I significantly improved my skill set, embraced a more open-minded attitude towards colleagues and customers, and learned the importance of optimism in my role. These invaluable lessons are something I'll always be grateful for. However, the management culture at location 160 was a major drawback. The lack of support, dismissive attitude towards employee concerns, and unmet promises created a challenging work environment.

This specific location had several shortcomings that displeased me. The leadership culture, the day-to-day service procedures, and the additional responsibilities without extra compensation were major issues. Feeling undermined in my role, having to take on more tasks with short staff, and being belittled by my superior for asking for help were common occurrences.

I once approached my superior with detailed concerns about colleagues targeting me, but he dismissed my issues and told me to address it directly. The location manager avoids conflict and refuses to get involved.

Additionally, an incident occurred where my vehicle was damaged on company time at a customer's site. My superior promised the company would cover the repairs, but that promise was not kept. Instead of paying the $500 for repairs, I received only $200, which was taxed, and my superior instructed me to go through my insurance. This lack of follow-through on promises is unfair. In summary, promises made at this location are rarely kept.

Since an exit interview was not requested from me, I am writing this review to share my detailed experience with the company. While the organization itself is commendable overall, this specific location requires reevaluation. I hope this review helps future employees understand the workplace culture before considering a position at Hammond Unifirst.

Location Needs Improvement-

Working at Unifirst has provided me with valuable experiences, fostering patience, developing key skills for future roles, and deepening my understanding of customer support. I am truly grateful for these opportunities.

However, some incidents made my work life quite challenging. A major issue was the lack of confidentiality, as my direct superior also served as the location's HR representative. This dual role, along with her friendships with my peers, made it difficult to voice my concerns. Additionally, there was too much finger-pointing and gossiping and not enough collaboration in shared responsibilities across departments.

This location lacked order and professionalism. Confidential employee information, including pay commissions, social security numbers, and copies of identification, was often left around the office for anyone to see. Despite bringing these issues to the location manager's attention and receiving assurances that they would be addressed, no changes were made.

While I learned a lot about the systems through self-teaching, my superior’s dual role often resulted in a lack of knowledge about certain processes. Although the extra tedious work was somewhat compensated with bonuses, the pay structure for the customer service role did not align with the level of responsibility required.

In conclusion, I believe Unifirst is a great company to work for, but this specific location has areas for improvement to better support its employees.

My aunt works here and gets treated like a slave! They can’t use the washroom through out or even take a sip of water because they’re pressured to meet a very heavy quota per hour. This is not okay.

RUN! Do not do business with them! By far the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. The only professional people who know what's going on are the drivers. Which makes sense the drivers leave every few months! Communication is a joke. The staff is rude and condescending and get irritated with you when you experience issues with their services. Megan and Darren are especially rude and aloof, if you have the unfortunate opportunity to be locked in a 5 year contract with them, avoid those two at all costs. Ken has been the inly individual who is worth working with. He is kind and understanding. Unfortunately, his boss is Darren so it makes things difficult. We have pants in the complete wrong color, we have items that were ordered a yar ago, and we still do not have among many other issues along the way. They nickel and dime you for every little thing as well. Please avoid, avoid, avoid and save yourself the frustration of using this company.
