Ventura has a rich surf heritage and culture that should never be overlooked as foiling gains popularity. The team at Ventura Salt Co does an outstanding job of preserving this history while also offering the latest foils, boards, and accessories. They also emphasize the importance of etiquette in this rapidly growing ocean sport, particularly around the sensitive and prestigious breaks we are fortunate to have in this area.

When I was there picking up some gear, I overheard them on the phone with a novice foiler who was asking about where to practice. Instead of brushing them off, the staff took the time to politely and patiently explain the appropriate places to get familiar with the gear, away from crowded spots. They also warned them to avoid certain breaks that could be dangerous or inappropriate for beginners. Observing this level of care and attention for both foiling AND traditional surfing made me a loyal customer.

The shop encourages all foil enthusiasts to be mindful of surfers, respect traditional surf lineups, and prioritize safety to ensure a harmonious coexistence in the water. My son had an awesome tow foil lesson with Mike, a highlight of our visit to the area. I definitely recommend a lesson to anyone who has the patience and stamina to fall and get up on the board again...and again. He loved it l, and Mike was a fantastic instructor. Learning by getting towed behind a seadoo was a great way to get underway.
