I will say it is helpful for everyone to have access to equipment through this program. At the same time, it’s important to remember that the university already benefits from significant public subsidies, since they don’t pay property taxes or taxes on tuition, while relying on public infrastructure that we pay for.

The “late fees” charged can exceed the actual value of the item, which feels excessive, especially for smaller items. In many cases, it may be more cost effective to purchase the item yourself.

The rudeness and inflexibility of certain front desk staff left me feeling that the program is not as community-friendly as it could be.

Phil Burnett was really helpful and accommodating. He helped me get all the right gear and everything worked out perfectly! The staff was also helpful the few times I called with questions.

My husband and I decided to rent some life jackets and a paddle board. The staff in the morning were so helpful and nice. They even made sure that my life jacket was the correct size and if it was comfortable. They also made some nice conversation with us. Made the process super simple. A great way to start our paddle boarding day. Very affordable and quick process! They told us we have to bring our gear back by 5.

We came back around 4:50 to return our equipment and had the rudest customer service. When I got there they asked what I was here for then i proceeded to let them know I’m here to return my rentals. They said “okay we’ll bring it back here” with some attitude, as if I knew. The crew made me clean my own board which was weird because another customer came in after me and didn’t have them clean their board. Then they also made a comment about the life jackets, he told me next time I need to clip my life jackets. OKAY As he was inspecting the board and paddle he kept saying everything was chipped or leaking. (All was fine and I didn’t get a charge.) The man said it had a leak but it was because he didn’t know the pump hole wasn’t twisted. The worker accused me right away but doesn’t know how their shops gear works. All the conversation/interactions were so rude. Another worker asked where we went, I said pineview and he said “oh I bet it was so busy, was everyone and their mom there?”, I said no I know a small spot, he said “that’s what everyone says that but isn’t a hidden spot” I said I mean I only saw 3 groups, he then said “yeah well it’s cold so that’s probably why”. The whole experience with the night crew made me upset. This was my first time paddle boarding and they were not welcoming. I thought that’s what the outdoor experience is about. I’m not sure if it was my fault for coming in right before 5pm, but if so please tell customers to come in earlier. I’m sorry you are trying to get your weekend started sooner. Just have a sign to come in before or something. It would suck for other ladies who come in alone to get treated that way.

I always have a great rental experience with WSU Outdoor. Their mountain bikes are amazing! Our mountain bikes from WSU were the only ones that did not break among a group of 10 with bikes from other college programs. We had an accident that led to some damage when transporting them home. We told them we expected the repair cost to be around $500 but it was much less than that. Their customer service is always spot on and I’d recommend anyone to rent from WSU.

This was the worst customer experience i've ever had. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the vehicle I had for transportation of a canoe was no longer available. So I asked if I could pay the difference between the canoe and two kayaks. I was immediately refused. So my memorial weekend trip that I had planned is now in the water and im out $70, because there is no flexibility or leniency within their cancelation program. Its confusing, because I already paid and they had the Kayaks in stock with no reservations on them. I'm never recommending this place to neither student or non-student and will be actively discouring others to not come here. Just go through a private renter, or even buy your own. Would put it at zero stars if I could.

Edit: The owner posted on my post saying my communication was unclear. I made it known to the associate that I spoke to that I was aware there wouldn't be a refund (as i read the cancelation policy online) and would pay the difference for another product. I did indeed hang up in frustration, but only after my request was denied and no new alternative was presented.
