Several issues 1st was very disappointed that on a long Memorial Day weekend. The grass was not trimmed or cut, picnic tables were not at each site, and the bathrooms had not been cleaned for a while. In the men's bathroom, there was a urinal, and underneath the urinal was a bucket, and it had urine in it. There was a new urinal laying on the floor that had not yet been installed. Again, this is Memorial Day weekend.. It's totally unacceptable.

Additionally, many I of the campers expected to go to their sites only to find out the county overbooked their sites. I have a reservation for site 5 only to find out it had been booked for 3 months

Many sites, mines included site 1, did not have 120V but did have a 30amp connection. Site te 2 did not have running water as well as others.

The county should be ashamed of itself and Needs to do better. There is no excuse for a small town or large to treat their visitors to this type of hospitality.

Booked an RV site and a tent site as the map shows the tent site directly adjacent to the end of the RV site . When I arrived there are no tent sites , just a fence and a steep slope leading down into the fairgrounds field , no sign of the advertised picnic table and definitely no Wi-fi as advertised . Contacted the Wheeler County RV park about this by email on 6/23/25 and was told my concerns would be forwarded to the respondent’s supervisor. It is now 7/03/25 and after a follow up email from me last week , I have heard nothing back . My first two emails were nothing but polite , but I no longer feel polite . I would not recommend this place to anyone wanting a tent site , since they don’t exist but they will take your money .Highly dissatisfied and more than a little peeved at being rooked out of my money and then blown off.It wasn’t a fortune , just the idea of charging for something that doesn’t exist is less than acceptable . Two photos of the map showing the supposed tent site , the photo with the fence and tree is what is actually at the end of the RV site .

I'm leaving a 5 star review. It should be a 4 star at best. There was electrical issues and water issues but they fixed them. I leaving the 5 stars because of the scenery. This place could be really nice if they put a little work into it. Promoted it and such. They don't answer the main line you have to call the emergency line.

Clean sites. Full RV hookups. Pull-through sites. Water service is heated for winter use. Quiet. Gorgeous views. The town is great. My kids and I found fossils within two minutes at the local high school dig site. Fun hike right next to the RV site, the trail starts at the site. Easy, beautiful drive to other John Day Fossil Beds sites. Fun playground at the school.

I will start with the positive aspects: Rates are very good, the surrounding area is beautiful and quiet. While the immediate area, the fairground etc is not exactly picturesque, it is quiet and restful.

Now the less than positive review: We pulled in on a Saturday afternoon in April for a 3 night stay. The space we were allotted did not have electricity. I checked the empty lots next to and behind us and their 30 amp seemed to work. So I called the office and received a message saying they were closed for the season (I made my reservation online, so I had never dealt with anyone in person). Thus, I made the unanimous decision to take the space next to mine, and hope it would not interfere with someone else's reservation. After hooking up, I realized the regular 15 amp outlet did not work, so I had to run an extension from one of my RVs outlets to run the heated hose (it was supposed to get in the low 20s at night). Already not impressed, but what do you do. Another poor planning is how far forward the sewage pipe lies from the rest of the utilities. You either need to connect 2 sewer hoses, or park your RV farther forward. However, in doing so, now there is no place to park your towing vehicle. Yet another poor design feature is how high the sewer pipe is, especially in the south facing (even number) lots. This is because those lots slope upwards and, being so far forward, the opening ends up being about level with your discharge. This makes it a nightmare to dump your tanks. I ended up only draining the gray tanks and dumping the black tank somewhere else. Needless to say, I will be looking at other locations next time.

Tent spots are simple grass next to a picnic table. No marker or indication where or how many, but it wasn't crowded when we stayed, so a non issue.
The bathrooms are nice, actually. Kept clean and maintained. You can (and should) lock the door to the entire bathroom, or the shower room for privacy. If you want to hold hands with someone on the toilet - you're in luck.
The toilets are in plain view with no partition to eachother the outside when the outside door opens.
There are about 10 RV spots, and a fair amount look to be rented monthly, so call ahead to be sure there is a spot if you need RV/hookups.
I would stay here again.

I will start with a positive note. The cell service here is awesome! And the smell juniper here is Devine! Now to the nitty gritty. This place would really benefit from a park host. When we arrived, the spot we reserved had a truck parked in it. We called the number listed on the reservation, which prompted us to call another number. Called once, left a voicemail. Called back, she said I had the wrong number. Husband called, she responded to him. Told her we picked a different spot, she said that was ok. So we hooked up and got settled. Then about an hour into our stay, the people behind us were outside yelling! Never know what that could lead to. There are barriers in a couple of the spots, unsure if that meant those spots were out of order. Pretty sure, if we return to this area, we won’t stay here again.
